Firefox (FF) notes

The Firefox configuration folder (settings, etc…) is stored by default somewhere in a hidden section of the user's Windows directory (C:\Users\<your_login>).

It's a good idea to move this folder to another known place, in order to be able to back it up or move it to a new computer later!

If you are using Linux, go the the Thunderbird and Firefox on Linux page

The steps for moving/restoring the FF configuration directory are the same as the the Thunderbird steps, except that the location of the configuration directory is slightly different

  • TB configuration directory:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<your_login>\Application Data\Thunderbird
    • Windows 7 or Windows 10: C:\Users\<your_login>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
  • FF configuration directory:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<your_login>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
    • Windows 7 or Windows 10: C:\Users\<your_login>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox
If you get a new FF profile instead of the expected one when you restart FF, make sure you follow correctly the steps explaining how to use about:profiles to change the default profile, at the bottom of the detailed TB page
